well... looking at the specs (on dpreview.com), it has 2.7 fps (frames per second) in continuous mode (12 HQ images max)... that's respectable IMO... (for reference, a camera that I like, panasonic DMC-FZ20, has 2 fps or 3 fps with a maximum of 7 pics)...

What are you expecting or more likely, what are you trying to capture? If you are trying to capture fast action sports in low light with a consumer camera, it's not going to happen.

Writing to the card is one of the longest jobs for a camera to do...if you want high performance you should be looking at a dSLR with fast read/write speeds along with a high-speed CF card.

Personally I like the C-7xx series (I had a C-700 for over two years now), and it takes great pictures but I knew when buying it that it's an outdoors landscape camera and not a fast action low light sports camera; at the time I would have had to spend $10,000 for such a camera while today you can get excellent performance for under $2000.

I got some great action tennis shots when I was testing a C-740.

It was different than with an SLR - but it simply came down to knowing the shutter lag, and prefocussing as much as possible. (Of course, knowing the sport helps with anticipation, as well.) In 5 minutes, I got 10 good shots of a friend playing. I was pleasantly surprised.

Birds in flight is another story...
