I've used a friend's P-100. Very fast, very fast, very fast. Very compact too but not much manual controls.

If I were you, and I want a very compact P&S camera, the P100 wins hands down.

But, if you want a bit more controls, then the A95 would be the better choice, and the swivel screen is good (my brother has a A80).

The W1, I've no idea, not seen one yet. S1, I agree, is a definite no-no.

Another point to consider. Cost of batteries and memory.

The A95 would be the cheapest here to have with the AAs and CFs. Li-ion are expensive and the MS costs a bomb too.

Hope that put some things in perspective.

So if money wasn't an issue ( since im getting it for free ) which would you get?
Sony P150
The Sony P150 isn't a choice
Why isn't the P150 a choice, you listed the P100 and said money is not an issue, so get the better camera

I said money isn't an issue because I'm getting one of the cameras in the title for free!
Hmmm, I think I'm gunna go with the A95...

Your requirements are different than mine, butthe A95 is an excellent camera.

I would go with the Sony W1 over the Canon A95, given your situation. But you can't go wrong with either... both of them are close to each other...

I was reading some reviews and lots of people say that picture quality isn't as good with the W1....

This is why I say you can't compare picture quality across different camera classes (eg. ultra-compact, ultra-zoom, etc). I'm pretty sure the W1 has worse pics than the A95 but the W1 is an ultra-compact. Roughly speaking, ultra-compacts have worse pics than normal point&shoot; and ultra-zooms have worse pics than similarly priced normal (low-zoom) cameras; and so on...

If you went with the W1, you would get it for its size and large LCD... its pics are likely worse than the A95...

BTW, go and check them out in a retail store to see how they look...

Putz, sony will never be better than Canon.

Sony: horrible colors, noise, blá blá blá

importants:

Zoom Tele: S1 = 380mm/P100 = 114mm/W1 = 114mm

Image Stabilization = S1 = YES/P100 = NO/W1 = NO ???????

Normal Focus Range = S1 = 10cm/P100 = 50 cm/W1= 50cm ???????

Max Shutter = S1 = 1/2000sec/P100 = 1/1000sec/W1= 1/1000sec ??????

-

Sony have that speed?

Yes, Sony for who doesn't want quality is great!

I don't buy what this rico says. They are all full of s***. Too biased.

Sony are great compact P&Ss. Very fast. Good colour too. Shutter speed is another matter. For general use, 1/2000 sec is not commonly used.

Canons has the pic quality as well in their range, but I just don't dig the S1 IS. I think, for the money, the Panasonic FZs are the better choice for the UZ class with IS and Olympus C-7xxUZs for the same class without IS.

If you want fast startup and AF, go for the P100. As I said earlier, I've no idea on the W1 so maybe others can help. For more controls go for the A95.

I'd definitely recommend the A95 for a compact P&S and the P100 or W1 for the ultra compact. Not the S1 (only if you want to get an ultra zoom so what the heck, it's free)
