Some friends tell me it's better to buy a digicam of a real digicam constructor...

but when I read steve's digicam reviews, Casio EX-Z55 seem not to be so bad...

Any one having this model or SD300 or Panasonic lumix 77 ???

I have to choose in a few days :-(

The Z55 uses a Pentax lens and the overall quality seems fine. They are generally a little larger than their Pentax counterparts because of the larger LCD – a nice feature IMO. I would personally have no problem ordering a Casio if it had the features I wanted. I have a Pentax with the same lens and find it satisfactory.

Pentax has had the occasional camera with that lens that shows softness on one edge or the other. I am guessing that might carry over to the Casio cameras with the same lens. Maybe they have it under control because I haven't seen any problems talked about with the newer S5i or S50 (same lens), but I would look closely at the shots when you get the camera. The odds are pretty low of getting a bad one, but you would want to exchange it if you did.
