I am looking to purchase a digital camera for my wife. I am a newbie at digital cameras but I have been reading a lot the last few days.

For her use I am basically looking for a point and shoot with some added features. Knowing her she will be too lazy to figure out a manual camera. I am looking to spend about $400 before extra accessories such as an extra battery and a memory card.

So far I am leaning towards the Nikon 5200. Any other models I should look at? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Don't pass up the Canon A-series. My wife has the A95 and loves it. This is her first digicam and she is using it alot. The A95 has many more automatic modes than the Nikon 5200 does. The other advantages of the A95 are:

-It'sabout $100 cheaper.

- Larger size (feels more like a traditional camera)

- Has Movie mode

- Has 3 quality levels

- Better auto focus mode

- Bayonet Mount

- 1.8 LCD vice the 1.5 on the 5200

- Aperture and Shutter priority

- Full Manual Exposure

- Takes Compact Flash (cheaper than SD)

- Comes with a 32MB CF

- Nice software package

- With the money you save you can purchase the Canon Rechargeable AA batteries.
