I'd like to know what models would be good for backpacking, backcountry skiing and maybe even river trips. (I realize I'd need a waterproof case for that, but you get the idea)

I'm looking for at least 4.0MP, obviously fairly small and lightweight, and my budget is around $350 - $400.

I've been looking at the Canon Powershot S50. Are there any with a rubberized case? Thanks for your help.

You may want to take a look at this model. It's not rubberized, but it is designed to be weather resistant:

Olympus also has a few water-resistant models too, so you might want to check those out. However, my preference would be Jim's suggestion above.

Great. Thank you Jim & Phil. The pentax looks like it might just do the job. I like the battery options.
