Here are the specs a coworker is looking for. please advise.


Though not in any particular order I think the bias is toward focus speed and easy control of focusing / lighting.

The majority of pictures will be of machinery in a manufacturing/test environment detailing processes for inclusion in techincal manuals.


I like some of the Sony Cyber-Shots I've seen but have not found a swivel.

- Wide Angle capability (ideally, for all focal ranges 2" to 30 feet.
- Good in Low Light both lens and LCD
- Precise focus control over to allow taking sharp pictures over a ranges from 2" to 30 feet
- ability to swivel the lens relative to the body/viewer.
- Fast display
- Quick recovery to allow taking a series of pictures quickly.
- Quick focus adjustment to allow taking a series of pictures quickly.
- Quick flash recovery
- Relatively large LCD viewer (but only if it doesn't slow down the recovery time )
- Remote shutter-control capability.
- Index/File number of the picture that is about to be taken displays on LCD
- Threaded receptacle that accepts a standard tripod.

You are missing a key factor: price! Some of your requirements may be tough (eg. good at 2" and good at 30ft).

I think you should probably go with an SLR-like (in terms of size) low-zoom camera... examples include Sony V3, Canon G6, and stuff like that... something like the Canon G6 looks like the best for you (assuming the price is ok for you)...
