I was first aiming for the sony since the reviews were good and similiar. I also have a 256 mb memory stick from a previous camera (cam jus got stolen). But then I went to cnet and they didnt have a great review for the W1. Any recs? I would like an easy portable camera for trips, family photos, weddings etc. I would like to hear more about image quality and if both cameras are on the same level or not? thanks

Sony W1 is really an ultra-compact (although you can find even smaller cameras) and the A95 is a compact. Usually, the bigger cameras have more features than the smaller ones (depends on price though). The A95 should be better than W1 (except when it comes to portability and stuff like that).

Here are two reviews of them (don't know if it will help you but check them out):

If size is NOT a concern, the A95 is better IMO...

I'd say the $50 rebate on now is a factor, size is smaller, photo quality pretty close, and the big screen all point to the W1.

Have you read the megapixel.net reviews. They favor Sony on picture quality, lens quality, etc. & A95 on ease of use, software, battery useage, etc. Its Sony Days at Wolf, Kits, Camera World. No payments or interest 18 months. $50 sony rebate & $100 Marriott bonus buck if that is worth anything. Camera $300 after rebate. Not sure if web deal or only in stores.
