Some candidates are:

Pentax Optio
Minolta DImage Xg
Olympus Stylus
Nikon 3700
Casio Z3

My main concern is still image picture quality

Other candidates are welcome

All comments would be great

The odds that someone here has all of these to make comparisons is quite low. On the other hand, you could answer this yourself by going to the reviews and comparing the photographs taken with these cameras. And too, there are several other sites that have sample pics as well.

What's best for one user, may not be best for another.

I'd read the reviews, paying close attention to each review's conclusion section (where you'll see things like startup speed, autofocus speed/reliability, cycle time between photos before you can take another one, image quality indoors and outdoors, etc.).

I'd also make sure to look at each model's specifications (paying attention to things like flash range, features, lens focal range, etc.).

Some models may work better in some conditions, and others better in other conditions.

As a general rule, the smaller the camera, the more compromises you'll need to make.

I'd also make sure to "test drive" any models you are considering in a store. There can be a big difference in Viewfinder usability, LCD readability, control layout, menus, ergonomics, etc.). Each user may have different preferences in these areas. So, it's best to try one out in a store before you buy.
