Tis the season...I want to get my Mom a digicam for Xmas. She is a true P&S person and needs simple operation and navigation, but with outstanding results. Until now she has used your typical 35mm P&S cameras with decent success.

I'm not concerned computer easy-of-use (ie, Doesn't need a docking station or like) because, interestingly, she's fairly computer savvy.

So, My short list of specs: 4or5 MP, min3x optical zoom, good size lcd display, with optical viewfinder, good flash performance (understanding that all P&S have limits), should have good auto mode and decent scene selection options, but doesn't have to have a million scene options :-)

Thanks

If I were wanting one, I would get the Minolta G400. I used one for a week or so & it was fast, easy & took great pics!

There will always be trade-offs but check out Kodak's DX4530 http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_...x4530_pg5.html
or Canon's A85 or A95 http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_...s/a95_pg7.html

I don't have any personal experience with Kodak but they seem to get great reviews. I have an A75 and absolutely love it - shot with both the A85 and A95 and just didn't need the extra megapixel as 8X10s is the largest that I print. What ever you choose I would give more points in favor of a camera that takes AAs, and that isn't too small (it's more fashionable but a pain in the butt to use). Good luck.
