I thought I saw a review recently of a compact digital camera that had a zoom lens that went to 24mm wide. But of course I can't find it now.

I take a lot of architectural photos, so I'm looking for a high quality compact camera with a 3X zoom that has the widest wide angle. so far I have found the Canon S60 and S70 have 28mm wide angle. Is there a compact camera with a wider wide angle? thanks!

Perhaps the Nikon Coolpix 8800 is the one you have in mind?

As far as I know, to get a wider angle lens on a digital than the S60/70, you'd have to go DSLR. I actually just purchased the S70, and so far I am extreemly happy wiht it. It's definetly worth a test-run.

No its the Nikon 8400 which is the one that is 24mm wide. If you thinkthat is too expensive (which I do), then consider the Olympus c5060WZ, which is 27mm wide. Not as compact though.

OOPS! Yes, Doady's right. It's the 8400 that's the wide angle one.

You could also get a camera that accepts attachments and get a wide-angle lens. Remember, though, that there can be some warping at the edges (and even in wide-angle cameras with no add-ons this can and usually does occur).

Thanks for your help, but neither the Nikon 8400 or the Olympus 8080 is a compact camera.

Looks like the Canon S60 and S70 have the widest angle lenses in the compact camera class.

The "compactest" camera with a wide angle is the S60 and also the S70. I love the Olympus 5060 since the results are fabulous, but I would avoid the Nikon purely for the reason that it has an electronic viewfinder, which is as much use as a cockerel is for laying eggs. The minute the light level drops (indoors) you'll see not a lot at all.

Looks like you've already made the right choice
