Greetings Guys.....my 1st post....all help greatly appreciated !

I have been trying to take pics at my son's wrestling matches.
They are all coming out very dark. I have tried several cameras,
most recently theSony V3.....this is a very nice all around but it
stillhas the same results.......nearly all dark unless I am with about
15 feet or so, and I am using an external flash as well. The only
way I can get good color is using night settings, but then pics are
blurry due to constant movement of the wrestlers, and slow shutter spd.
It seems that I have to move up to an SLR and good size lens to get
any kind of results.....anyhelp you couldoffer on this would be
greatly appreciated. I saw 3 pro photographers today all using
canon's.....I managed to get close enuf to one to get the model and
see it is over a 5k camera which I can not afford. I have been looking
and looking, and seem to come back to a Nikon D70 or D100. I want
to stay with digital,NOT 35 MM.......can you folks give me some guidance
on whether or not either one of these cameras, or other suggestions
will finally do I want to.......also what lens size would you recommend,
and external flash ??? Thank you in advance. Andy

Hi Andy,

I've only shot wrestling a couple of times. I was happy with my results using my DRebel. Not sure what the best price going on a DRebel is these days but a guy I work with had Sears price match an on-line price of like $750 and then with a $100 rebate his end cost was going to be like $650... If you don't want to use a flash you'll need a fairly fast lens. Got a few options here, ranging from a $70 50mm 1.8 lens if you can get close enough to a $800 70-200 2.8 zoom lens. Here's a sample from my DRebel

hth,
john

HEy John,

Thanks for the fast comeback ! If I could shoot pics like you posted, I would

be absolutely thrilled! Mine have been no where close to that ! ugh.....

Was that with the 50 mm lens and is it auto focus ?? Thanks, Andy

That was with my trusty Sigma 70-200... but then again I was sitting sitting in the bleachers as opposed to being down by the mats where some of the other people were taking pictures...
