So, I need an opinion if someone can give me one...

Even in light of it's downsides (AF issues, no AF illuminator, slow write speed) would you purchase a Nikon Coolpix 5400, new, for $328 out the door?

It seems that the local Costco stores have them for $499, with a $200 instant rebate...

I'm thinking that with a Lexar 1GB 80x card and a spare battery, it would be a really nice device.

Thanks for any opinions that anyone can give...

Are you sure that's an "Instant Rebate"? If so, is it one that Costco is offering from them?

That doesn't sound right (instant rebate), since Nikon has a $200.00 mail in rebate on this camera right now:

Yep, it's $499, tax on that, then minus $200 from that total. Right on the sign... They don't even mention the mail-in rebate. I'd imagine Costco did a bulk purchase of NOS (new, old stock) from Nikon, pulled some sort of a deal, and thusly Nikon isn't going to offer the mail-in rebate from Costco.

So, yeah. Real, real cheap... $320-some to have it in your hands.
