It is very hard for an average person to tell the difference between pics from most cameras. I would GUESS that the A95 takes the best pic but it is really up to the individual. For example, some people like rich colours, some like "realistic" colours, and so on.

All of these are fine cameras so your decision will come down to features like manual controls, video, size, LCD size, etc.

If you really want to know which has the best pic, look at the samples at the end of the reviews for these cameras here (at Steve's site). Open a few of the pics and compare them...

Steve has a good review as do several other sites. They have sample photos. I think the US name for the camera is the SD300, and you will find more reviews under that name. One glitch in the reviews is that Canon lists a manual exposure mode for the camera. It doesn't have one. Manual mode just takes you to a screen that lets you select other automatic modes. I'm sure Canon knows what "manual exposure" means, and I find their listing kind of sleazy. I know the reviewers are dependent on the good will of the camera makers to send them cameras to test, but they should really take Canon to task for that.

If you want only automatic modes the SD300/Ixus40 is a very nice little camera. http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_reviews/sd300.html

The W1 has a true manual exposure and some preset manual focus settings. The A95 has the full range of exposure controls but only auto-focus.

They all do good movies but the A95 movies are a bit jerky because of the low frame rate.

Just my opinion, but you really don't want to go by a couple users opinions unless you can verify they really know what they are doing. The guys at the major testing sites regularly test and compare cameras. Read the reviews and make your own decisions.

Some good reviews that list their likes and dislikes:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canonsd300/
http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/ca..._sd300-review/

A review with good information:

Some amateur opinions which you seem to prefer:
