Could anyone help me with blurring the background and keeping the subject in focus on my 6490? I've read the manual and tried many different ways but to no avail.

Thanks

Use aperture priority mode, and select the largest aperture (smallest number, probably around 2.8). This will minimize depth of field as much as possible. Keep in mind however that digicams have lenses with very short focal length lenses, and therefore you will get quite a lot of DOF, no matter what you do.

Shooting at the telephoto end of the lens might help as well......

Thanks alot for the help. I will give it a try. I'm pretty new to this so I'll see what happens.
I just bought 3 filters to try also. I don't know if Tiffen
is a good brand or not but I got a UV filter, circle polarizer, and a Kodak neutral.
Thanks again for the help.

That should have been an "8" where the smiley face is....

Tiffen has been around longer than I have - they seem to provide a good level of performance for the money spent....
