I'm wishing to buy an ultra compact, and my main two criteria are a) light weight and b) quality of outdoor shots..as it is for holiday photography. In particular I favour vivid colour (a la Fuji film as opposed to Kodak). Reviews have said that the Pentax s5i has natural color compored to the vivid colours of other cameras.
I've seen photos taken with a friend's Minolta XG and loved the colour. Might the Optio S5i be less impressive?
I've looked at sample photos but can't really see much difference.
Does anyone have any experience of this or opinion? Is there much difference between cameras?

Not sure... but one thing to keep in mind is that many cameras have features where you can take 'vivid', 'black&white', 'sepia',etc pictures. This may give you what you want (depends). If you like vivid pics, you may want to set the camera to 'vivid' and take the pics...
