An addendum I would like to make is not to buy a more expensive camera just because you can or for the sake of prestige of having a more powerful and expensive camera, but never using it to its fullest capacity. I was making wonderful photographs with a prosumer P&S but felt it necessary to move up to DSLR. However, a friend of mine who is a professional photographer owned a 1D MarkII, and was making wonderful photographs, moved up to a 1Ds MarkII just because he could. This was in a matter of 3 months. Whatever floats your boat. 8) :bye:

So in your opinion would it be better to pay the extra price for the 20d, but keep it longer than the XT?
Lastly, to truly answer your question directly, yes it is better to pay extra for the 20D and keep it longer than the XT. Some might say to upgrade the body and keep the lenses. Why not keep both? If you love your 20D and treat it well, and take good care of it, it will serve you for many years. I've had my Canon SLR for more than a decade (closer to two) and it just failed me two years ago.
