I have a minolta F100 which has been great but I want to upgrade and am unsure about which camera to go for.

I want these features:

1. Good for close up work.
2. Flip out view screen for subjects close to the ground.
3. Good zoom range e.g. 7x to 10x.
4. As small as possible with these features.

I had thought about the Minolta A200 which has most of the above but it doesn't seem to be so good for closeup work and reading some of the forum threads it seems to have a focus issue.

Any ideas would be welcome?

Hi,

Have you seen the new Pentax OptioMX, it would be around the $300US mark. Good camera, seems to have the features your are looking for.

Thanks for the pointer.

It does do some of what I want, but is only 3.2MP, which isn't really enough if I want to blow up portions of images (which I will) to a decent size.

Would not recommend the Pentax. It's more of a video camera (including the design of it).

If you want all requirements fulfilled, take a look at the following:

Nikon 5700, 8700, 8800

Canon Pro1

They all aren't the smallest, but since the A200 isn't too large for you, the size of the above shouldn't deter you, either.

The Nikon have rebates going on right now, I believe (check their website), and they are renowned for their macro ability.

If you can relax any of the requirements, your range of choices increases a lot.
