I like landscape photography. I'd like to have a camera with a lens that will go to 30mm or greater. I don't want anything too heavy or too expensive. The only medium priced camera I can come up with that does wide angle is the Nikon Coolpix 5400 at 28mm. Am I missing any other models?

I found two more, by Fuji, the E500 and E510

The Canon S70 is in your price range: http://www50.shopping.com/xPC-Canon_...t_S70~S-P~OR-0 And you might find the Olympus 5060 within your range.

Keep in mind that you have to add the cost of rechargeable batteries and a charger to the cost of the Fujis, and the xD card is generally a little pricier and will likely never be used in anything but Fuji and Oly equipment.

Have a look at the new Ricoh R2 (28-135 mm) very thin around 300$. It's new and hard to find a review, but it's a wide angle with incredible fast startup.

I don't believe that the Ricoh is available in North America. Ihavebeen looking for a camera of this style for a long time. Unfortunately the choices available are very limited.

For now, the best choice appears to be the Canon S60/S70.

Thanks everyone, for the replies so far.

The Canon S60 and 70 look pretty good.

I can't find the Ricoh R2 for sale either. Ricoh has an older R1v that is wide angle but a bit over my price range.

The Nikon 5400 currently has a $200.00 rebate offer from the manufacturer. That's good but makes me think a replacement camera will be offered soon. Will it have wide angle and maybe a bigger LCD screen? I sure don't know.

Any other wide angle point and shoot cameras out there?

I think the rebate expired for the Nikons at the end of March unless they reinstated it. Anything you buy will be obsolete fairly quickly. Nikon has a new 8400 model with a 24mm wide capability, but it is pricey.

The rebate on the Nikon runs through June, I just checked the web site.

I see Olympus has a wide angle P&S available called the Olympus C-5060 Wide Zoom. It also looks good.

Is Bestbuy and Zipzoomfly authorized Nikon dealers?

Nikons site only lists WOLF CAMERA, RITZ CAMERA, TRADER JIM'S CAMERA & VIDEO, VIDEO & AUDIO CENTER, THE GOOD GUYS, KITS CAMERA, SAMY'S CAMERA and VENICE CAMERA EXCHANGE.
