all i have read and what limited time i spent using the 18-55 canon suggests it is not a bad lens at all.. its actually a screaming good bargain at only 100 dollars more for the kit..

then add the aforementioned 50 1.8 for 70-80 bucks, and you got yourself a couple nice lenses for not a lot of dough... from there you will have a good feel for what your future lens needs are..

After thinking about it, it also makes a bit more sens with the 18-55, giving me a lot more wide, and a little zoom. I think that's going to be my choice... but i'm still no sure if I should wait to see what the D50 is capable of.

it will be basically a smaller d70 without a few features, but a faster startup time..

it will not match the 350d/rebel xt's image quality...

So there isn't going to be anything newer in the D50, than in the D70 (except the faster startup time) ?

i think the main advantage of d50 vs d70is the faster startup time... the disadvantages are that it loses DOF preview, wireless flash trigger, and a few other features.. it is smaller, so that is disadvantage or advantage depending on your way of looking at it.. it has a slightly different image processor and metering, but how that will effect photos, i dont know.. but basically image quality should be very similar..

therefore, iexpect the 350d should be the winner here.. if one is starting from scratch in the lens department..
