Hi all, to any British Readers, please take care whereyou take advice from. The "Digtal Photo Magazine(Emap £4.99)appears to be extremly biased in it's views of Canon products.

In it's Best buys section Canon takes the top position in 7 out of eight tables.

Top 5 point and Shoot - Canon ixus 40 -1st

Top5 Creative Compacts - Canon G6 - 1st

Top5 Mid price SLR - Canon EOS20D - 1st

Top5Budget SLRs - Canon EOS350D- 1st

Top5 Photoprinters - Canon Pixma IP4000 -1st

Top 5 A3 Printer Canon i9950 - 1st & 3rd(ip9100)

Top5 SLR style Cameras - Canon Powerrshot pro 1 - 3rd

Top Flatbed Scanners 2nd & 3rd places.

In the test on Macro lenses this month, guess who make THE BEST lens getting their Gold 5* award? Yes Canon!!! Even beating Pentax, Nikon, Tamron etc.

Now forgive me for being very cynical here, I accept that Canon do indeed make some good stuff, but to take top place across the board...

Now of course purely co-incidently they're running a competition - promoted by.... Canon!

Take a good look arouind this site, ask other users and choose carefully!

Regards Woody

Or maybe it is their genuinely and honestly held belief that Canon make the best products in digital photography at the moment.

Anyway - there are certainly plenty of cameras out there - don't buy a Canon if you don't like them.

Honestly there's not that much to choose between any of the top manufacturers at any given price point.

Ahh, yes, CANON is taking over the world.. it is quite the conspiracy yet it is easily understod once you realize that C.A.N.O.N. stands for "Corporate Alliance of New Optics Newsmongers". So, yes, they are all "in on it".

i think you could make an objective argument for canon leading in many of the categories.. so while it may look to be a conspiracy, more than likely it is a coincidence.. also if you look to any phot mag no matter what the country of origin, they co-sponsor many events, etc with many different companies, so i highy doubt any alliance between canon and the magazine..

Whilst on a serious level I doubt there are any "backhanders" to the magazine, I still do not accept that Canon can seriuosly be better then EVERY other make out there. Yes they DO make good equiptment, but it's still too convienient for that level of success.

the one area i have the biggest problem with is the printer.. i think you could make a serious argument for the epson 2200 being superior...

As an HP fan I might disagree with the Epson choice, but that said the photo quality prints off any Epson are usually awsome. ( I just dont like their general print quality compared to an HP.)

Generally speaking; anyone who is serious about PHOTO printing uses an Epson or Canon printer. HP is no were near the quality of Epson and Canon.

I have tried most of them and presently use an Epson 2200 and an Epson R300.

And I am a HUGE Canon Camera Fan.............

i agree that in the past, HP trailed Canon and Epson in the PHOTO printing area.. but..

i would disagree with the introduction of HP's 8450 and 8750 and vivera ink for picture permanence.. it is my opinion that they are just as capable or more soas anything offered by Canon especially with Hps grey photo ink.. and are not far behind Epson and its printers using the ultrachrome ink..

i currently use the 8450 as my budget, post canon 20d, did not allow an epson 2200 and i have been more than happy with the results... someday when money permits, i would like to upgrade to wide-carriage, and while the epson 2400 would probably still be tops on my list, i would not rule out the 8750..
