I am now using Panasonic FZ20 for photographing wild birds. I want to upgrade to dSLR like Canon 20D or Nikon D70. I am happy with FZ20 430 mm lens but do not like noises at low light where I mostly photograph the birds. What lenses are available for the 20D or D70 that areequal or sharper than the FZ2 's Leica lens?

300mm f2.8 (35mm equiv 450 f2.8) $3500

600mm f4 (35mm equiv 900 f4) $7000

80-200 f2.8 (35mm equiv 120-300 f2.8) $2000

why don't you simply set your iso to 200 and try a tripod?

ruchai,

Check out JakeTPegg's stuff over in wildlife, he moved from an FZ20 to a Canon 20D plus EF 100-400L (*1.6 = 160-640mm).

If you do make the move you need to be aware that for the first 2-3 months your photos will probably be worse than they are now while you climb the DSLR learning curve, after that however they will be a lot better.

I always use Manfrettotripod and ISO 80 most of the time. I also like the light FZ20 more and more every day. With the dSLR lens prices and weight I must think hard before going to switch. May be I shouldstay with my FZ20 for a few years until the "FZ30" come out.

Thanks for waking me up from my day dream.

I wouldn't be surprised if s FZ30 comes out or is at least announced. I don't think that Panasonic wishes to see Samsung (a major competitor in numerous market segments) and its new Pro815 steal any of there ultra zoom market thunder especially now that Pana doesn't have (soon)the longest zoom digi-cam on the market.

Personally I would like to see them use something like the excellent 7mp 1/8"sensor out right now.... although that won't likely happen as its a Sony chip.... hmmm... and give it a 15x zoom lens to inorder to match the SamCam.:?
