What do you think about those three models?

1) Nikon D70
2) Canon Digital Rebel XT/350D
3) Pentax *ist DS

other suggestions?

Is this problem with the Nikon D70 now fixed?

I am looking for robust body, not fragile LCD screen (possible platic protection) and a good compromise between price / quality, namely something that lasts for a long time without any major problems.

I am planning to visit California / Oregon states this summer.

Thanks for your reply

Get the nikon for speed, the canon for image quality, and the pentax for build and the use of manual lenses. I bought I ds mostly because of the size and I know I will take it everywhere. The d70 is just a bit to big and the canons feel cheap (I bought the ds even though I was a rebal ti shotter with a couple of lenses). Good luck and you will enjoy any of the 3.

get down to the local pro store... take a test drive of all three and then choose which one fits you best.. any of the three will serve you well though the canon is about a 1/2 to 3/4 of a generation above the other two in image quality..

best regards, dustin
