I have taken a college photography course and would like to buy a good dslr to take pics as a hobby. I would like to take pics of everything, including outdoor spoorts such as beach volleyball. I am considering the Nikon d70 or the Canon 20d. I'm really not sure what to go with. Should i really spend the extra money for the canon 20d or should i just get the lower end nikon d70?

Thanks

Why not look at the Rebel XT / EOS350D? It's nearer to the D70s in price.

Either way I would probably get a Canon, as I prefer their lenses and accessories.

I've looked into the xt a bit. I was thinking I wanted more juice. However, maybe I don't. I was also thinking of the camera that wouldn't be outdated as fast.

Your thoughts?

Try to go to a Bestbuy and test the cameras. You may find that one feels better in your hand. All of these cameras are very capabilie of performing your job tasks.

I own the Canon 20D, 350D/XT, Nikon D-70, and the Pentax 1stDS. I use the Pentax the most due to itmuch better grip and viewfinder. It is an excellent dSLR that works just great with sports photography. Beside that you will save $$$.

I'm actually looking into getting the xt with a better lense as opposed to the 20d. I don't like that the pentax doesn't have a good jpeg system. What do you guys think would be the best investment for the best deal?

I have spent more on my lens collection than I did for my 20D. Good glass is a very good investment in the long run.

The digital camera market is changing daily so any camera will be outdated quickly. However it's the pictures that count. If the camera you buy has all the controls you want and takes good pictures today it will still take good pictures next year.
