I am an armature want-a-be. I do enjoy taking pictures, but I have a long road to go before getting to a comfortable level of knowledge in photography. Currently I have a Nikon 5700, but I feel very limited on what I can do. As you know it does have the ability to manually adjust, but I feel it takes to much time playing with the buttons to get the settings.

I have been looking at the Canon EOS 20D & the 350D. From what I what is written and what I can understand in the reviews there is not a whole lot of difference besides price. I am hoping to purchase a camera that I can be happy with for at least 5 years or more. If I can ask if you could help guide me in which direction I should take.

I would truly appreciate any feedback,

I owned the Nikon 5700 and now have the Canon 20D. There are some differences that I consider important between the 20D and the the 350

1. has 5 frames per second
2. larger buffer for more continous shooting
3. Instant on from even the sleep mode
4. metal body
5. larger camera that fits my hand better

Any digital camera you buy will be largely outmoded in 5 years.

What you pay $1000 for now will cost less than $500 in 5 years time.

Having said that, both the350 and the 20D take near film quality pics, so I can't imagine why someone would grow tired of the picture quality.

I would say the 350D would be a pretty fair jump for you. You could hang out with the 350D and improve your photography considerably.

In five years time you could probably buy a 12 megapixel semi pro camera for $500(or maybe I'm dreaming).
