would like:
at least 5 megapixel
at least a 30mm wideangle
a lens that opens up to F/2.0 or wider at wide, and stops down to somewhere between F/2.8 and F/4.0 at telephoto
comparable size to the Canon A95 (maybe a LITTLE bigger would be ok)
nightshot (IR) mode
compact flash
telephoto to somewhere around 108 to 144mm or so, preferably with IS. (maybe as long as the Panasonic LZ series, and btw with an aperture similar to the older Canon G cams maybe?)
ISO 1600 capability, AT LEAST as good as on the Fuji F10. (I might even boost it to 3200 or 6400 if the conditions warranted)
full manual controls
$200 to $250 or so (not sure yet though)

What's out there, or on the horizon, that's similar?

Nothing -as far as i know-

But Canon G6 looks closest except your ISO requirement.
If you insist on ISO, then you should think of DSLR's in my opinion. Because F10 is only p&s and it does not have an f 2.0 lens.

What do you mean by boosting it to 3200 or 6400? How is it possible?

I didn't think there was anything right now...

BUT...

when will Fuji release the F20?

6mp 1/1.7" sensor
27-216mm, F/1.4 to F/4.0 lens
Compact Flash, Type I
ISO 1600 capability (at least as clean as on the F10)

And the F30...

10mp 3/4" (10.24x7.68mm) sensor
18-576mm F/1.0 to F/4.0 lens
ISO 1600 capability (6400 when shooting in 2mp (1600x1200) mode)
Compact Flash Type II (supports mini blu-ray 3cm or 6cm DVDs also)

If it is a wide angle lens compact camera you are looking for, I have researched them all recently and there are only two that fit your needs: Canon S60 (5 mpx.) or Canon S70 (7 mpx.) These are the best and as far as I know the only compact size wide angles.

You might also check out the Fujifilm Finepix F10 which is an amazing camera - not wide angle, but it has capabilities you usually don't find in other compact cameras. You can pick one up at buydig.com for around $300.00 See the reviews below:

All the best!
