I had about $300 in Sears gift certificates and needed a new camera.

I went ahead and got the CanonPowershot A520, as is seemed a reasonable price for the features it had, but I am having second thoughts. What I namely wish to print is very sharp b/w 8x10s, as well as use the camera to take pictures of clothing I construct, the models that wear it, and my artwork for an online portfolio and to make prints for a hardcopy portfolio.

I would like a camera with a good zoom and relative ease to focus at a manual setting. I rather dislike automodes and preset modes aren't of that much importance to me.

Would I be better off with a 5mp camera, such asthe Canon S60, or perhaps the Nikon CoolPix 5200?

I am limited to these Cameras,

and would like to stay under $300 if possible.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

in my opinion 4 megapixels is definatly enough to make sharp 8x10's, as long as you don't crop the original to death. it seems like your primary subjects will be controlled, and stationary, so i'd say pick the camera with the sharpest lens you can find, and plenty of manual exposure options. i think the S60 would fit your bill pretty well.

Given your criteria, the A520 is the camera I would choose. It will do what you want to do. Heck, you have the camera in your hands; start shooting. You should be able to tell within an hour if it suits your needs.
