Finally buying a digital camera andthere are so many choices!

I've had experience with manual film cameras and developing my own prints, so I would like something with manual controls so I have some creative freedom. Probably take lots of pictures of architecture and people..mostly candids, and also lots of closeups.

These are the things Im looking for in a camera.

5-8 MP.

Manual and automatic... shutter speed, flash, focus, etc.

Decent Macro abilities.

Long lasting battery life.

Im undecided about how much of a zoom..at least a 4x.

Overall Great picture quality.

I also like having different filters..at least black and white and Sepia.

Down to these choices:

1.Canon Powershot S70--leaning towards this one.

2.Sony Cybershot DSC-W7

3.Fuiji FinepixF10

Nikon Coolpix 7900-Contrast in pics seem too low

Olympus C-770 Ultra Zoom- not in the running anymore

Pentax Optio 550---not in the running anymore

Please help me choose. Can Spend up to 400-450.

If you're really concerned about having manual controls, scratch the F10 from your list...it is almost devoid of manual controls. If you can wait, Fuji will be releasing the E900 next month. It is about the same size as the S70, but with 9 MP, ISO 800 capable, the same photo processor as the F10, shutter lag of 0.01 seconds and uses AA batteries. Sound pretty good to me! Here's a link:

Good luck.
