I am new to the dslr market and am looking at either the nikon D50 or KM Maxxum 5D.
I like the feel of the nikon but the AS on the KM looks intriguing. I live in Canada and I don't think there being sold in Canada anymore. So I'm not sure what to do. Is the AS that much of an asset or will the Nikon be fine?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I really like the AS feature on the 5D and 7D but I ended up with the Nikon D50. Even though my local Montreal (Canada) store rep. told me that they will be purchasing from Konica Minolta USA, I was not convicted. What happens when you need servicing? What about accessories? I just didn't want to take the chance! There's enough stress in my life and I don't need more!

I have purchased my 5D from B&H, a reputable online vendor(NY based). The delivery time is quick and the process is hassle free. I've been told that the warranty is valid internationally, however I am also in the process of finding out whether Zoomtron(whom KM supposedly contract to take care of their service side, and who is taking over their Mississauga, Ontario facility) will be validating the warranty.

Thanks for the reply. That was one of my problems with the KM. I don't want to have to worry about getting servicing done. Are you happy with your D50?

Zoomtron's reply regrading warranty:

"Hi Andrew

First, I congratulate you for your new purchase of the Max 5D camera. And if
for any reason you require any assistance whether it be technical or repair
you can contact our offices in Montreal or Mississauga at 514 333 0004 or 1
800 567 8324 ext:118. The only piece of document needed to validate your
warranty is the proof of purchase or bill. The coverage for your camera is 1
year since it was bought in the U.S.

Thank You
Service Department
Zoomtron Inc. "

When a market is not big enough to sustain a profitable operation the manucfaturers use local distributors instead - This has been done by the biggest names in photography before: http://www.zeissikon.com/distributors.htm

I believe Minolta already announced their Canadian distributors/support
