I am looking for a small compact camera with large optical zoom 10x or larger. New nikon coolpix s4 seems to the be the only only one small one and big optical zoom. Anyone has tried it yet. or are there others cameras like that i am unaware of. Panasonic FZ series cameras are bigger then what i need.

Thanks

The Olympus C-770 and C-765 are both pretty small and have 10X optical zoom.

The S4 is the only camera that meets your criteria.

I suspect it will be difficult to find very many pocket-sized cameras w/ 10x zoom lenses. Simple physics dictate that a lens will require a certain amount of space to extend/retract from 1x - 10x. Also, the lens circumference will have to be quite large to allow enough light into the camera at 10x zoom. Even digital cameras have to deal with non-electronic physical conditions.

I agree with both of you. i have FZ1 and FZ10, like both of them but still find that i cant take them to many places without being so obvious. Just want to have something in the pocket or attached to the belt like a big pager, hence S4 seems to be the best and onlychoice. Just wanted to know in case something else like that has come out. Now just waiting for a review. I saw it on local compusa liked the size didnt like the menu button too small but really didnt play with it enough. In any case if picture quality is good (noise etcc)will buy it. Wished that they could put raw format as well.

The Fuji S5100/5500 and the new S5200/56000 are pretty small with a 10x zoom. They are much smaller than the panasonics but not small enough to fit in a pocket unfortunetly.

Those Fuji's are bigger than the Olympus C765/C770. Definitely not pocketable compacts.

Why not take a look at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5?
