I currently own a Sony DSC-T1, at least I did until it split in half and broke, and I'm in the market to buy a comparable new camera. I've read many reviews of these two cameras, and I was just wondering if anyone had experience with both. The DSC-T5 looks almost exactly the same as my old T1, but the S500 seems like it has some good features. I am a semi-pro photographer, though I use my 35mm film SLR for any real shots; this is just for a camera I can take around with me in my pocket all day. I was able to tweak the T1 to get my shots looking pretty good, and since neither of these cameras has a manual mode, that's not a concern of mine. Just looking for best image quality vs. speed. Any thoughts?

If you haven't found the weak flash of the T1 to be a disadvantage I would think the T5 would suit you fine. I think the lens is a little better than the S500.

nah, i'm not much of a flash fan. guess it's a habit i learned from my 35mm. it's either natural light or off-axis flash, because front flash just flattens everything out. thanks for the tip.
