Thanks MTClimber, that's good info.

Now you have open another can of worms. Image clarity. But that's another thread, so I will start it in the proper place.

Ciao.

KiwiExpat-

Clarity is a function of optical sharpness and resolution. That is the reason that the image from the Fuji E-900 looked so good.

If your intent is to do large enlargements or a lot of cropping you should consider the E-900. The Canon A-620 is no slouch at all and should be considered as it has a few more features than the E-900.

In the final analysis, both cameras are excellent and will certainly give you good service.

Thanks MT, Well, I was halfway right about image quality - I got the resolution part. But that is relatively easy.

The optical clarity is the difficult bit - there are no ratings for that.

Based on all the good advice above and elsewhere, here is what I'm thinking: I'll go with the A620 for now, and build my skills. Then, when it is justified, step up into something bigger with all the bells for serious photos, and keep the 620 for travel and casual work.

That is not a bad idea at all. The Canon A-620 is a gang busters camera. Cut your teeth on that one, then move on to bigger and better things.
