This question is probally asked several times and answered even more..... Last week I decided that I want to buy the Panasonic FZ30 instead of the Canon S2. It seems to me that the manual zoom-ring as well the manual focus-ring makes it more easy to use.

I only take some snapshots at home of my children, or outside when taking a walk in the park, I make pictures of my children and wife an animals (mostly birds) and I like to use the movie moder (I have a KM Z2 at the moment, but I think it's terrible in focusing in poor light)

I'm wondering: Did I make the right decission? And if so, why does Steve place the S2 at number 1 end the FZ30 at number 2 in the category 10-12X optical super zoom.

How is the movie mode on the FZ30 compared to the S2?

I'm not sure exactly of the Pan. specs.. But the movie mode on the S2 is highly rated. It's got stereo sound as compared to mono.

I chose the S2 over the other.. My needs are similar to yours. The deal breaker was the movie quality and swivel/ flip lcd.

What deal breaker? Panny has same specs for movie mode and twist-swivel LCD.

Ithink VWMOM means the stereo sound on the canon... But how is the sound quality on the panasonic? I know it's mono, but how does it sound. Does anybody know the bitrate. The canon records at CD quality.

I can't help you with the sound because I never use the movie mode (the only time I used it on my other camera was to see if it worked). However, I love the FZ30's mechanical zoom ring, and wouldn't want to be without it. I seriously looked at the H1 but knew I'd be too unhappy without the zoom ring.

Wouldn't be the list in alphabetical order...... ???

Does anybody know?

The strangest thing is, that everybody who has the FZ30 is absolutly thrilled about it, but not every Canon S2 user is thrilled about the S2, there are a few complaints from several users. So why is the S2 placed on number one and the FZ30 on number 2. For what reason(s)?

Oh yeah... you are right dequardo! I never read it... I only saw the lists.

I'll ask my specific questions about the the panasonic elsewhere.

Thanks!
