I own a Nikon F50 film SLR and lenses 35-80 mm 4-5.6 D & 70-300 mm 4-5.6 G. I had a look at D70s and the grip and the features look good. considering the cost of 70s at HK$ 8000, can some one advise me as to whether its good value for money and also whether i would be able to use my old lenses.both of them are AF Nikkor.

I show here with a pic taken in film recently.the lines are coming from the film scratching against the back door/loop.

thanks in advance.

Yes the d70s is a very good camera, and your lenses will work, although you won't have anything to cover the wide end. With the crop factor, your 30-80 will function as a 45-120. Of course if you opt for the kit lens (the 18-70), you would have the wide end covered and could sell or trade your 30-80 and pick up the 50 f/1.8 to use in low light situations. In terms of value, the d50 is probably a little bit better value (can be had for $599usd) and is as good as if not better in image quality. If you could give up some of the features of the D70 (no DOF preview, viewfinder grid lines, etc) the D50 may be all you need. You could then spend the extra money left over on glass.

thanks for the immediate reply.

i am inclined towards d70s bcos i had read that kit lens in d50 is not all that good.

also d50 dont have lcd illumination.

i will be investing in further glass once i get full feel of the dslr system.

can some one in HK advice me whether the prices are in the correct range?d50 costs about 5680 and d70s 8000 here in HK.

thanks in advance

Hi callerid

I understand your dilema...though I do not have a Nikon D70, I could suggest that you find some real useful reviews that can help you compare all features on this site that I tend to use frequently - http://www.inods.com
Check if this helps you too.
