Need help buying a digital camera. I have three kids who all play softball/baseball and would like a camera that will be able to capture my son pitching or my daughters batting or make that play by play shoot!!! I've inquired on several digital cameras that will take continuous shoots; would prefer to have at least 5 shoots in a very short period of time. But I was recently told that unless it was an SLR camera the point and shoots cameras will only print thumbnails of the continuous shoots in a single sheet instead of the each shoot as an individual picture. Is this true and which camera do you recommend? HELP PLEASE!!!!

mpm-

Your information is correct. What you are asking for really needs a DSLR camera for the best results, such as a Canon XT or a Nikon D-50. A point and shoot ultra zoom camera will be very hard pressed in that photographic environment. The burst rate of an ultra zoom is somewhat slower and you will need a good deal more light to get the photos if you are shooting in low light levels. Hopefully, these will be daytime games. An ultra zoom will give you lesser quality images, but they will be individual images not thumbnails.

Do some research on the ultra zooms for the exact details.

Even the entry level DSLR can't do 5fps.

For that you'll need the mid-level cameras like Canon 20D/30D or Nikon D200.
