am looking to buy an ultracompact digital camera.
the following points are important to me
-size (smaller the better)
-shutter lag(important that this is fast)
-reasonable flash
-good picture quality

I am cosidering the following cameras
Panasonic DMC FX9 (worried that the shutter lag may be too great)
Sony DSC T7 (woried that flash too poor)
Casio EX Z750 (worried about lens error problem and weak flash)
Pentax optio S6 (worried about shutter lag and photo quality)

I would also consider any other cameras which meet my criteria
Please comment on any of the above or if you have any other suggestions.

The Casio EX-S600 would also fit you're bill and is likely smaller than all of the cameras you listed. It has a quick start-up time and no lag. Picture quality seems good, but I'm also not a serious photographer.

Sample pics can be viewed here:

The last 8 pics in the gallery were taken in a room with the lights off, with maybe 6 feet between me and the wall in the pic.

this week bestbuy sale the sony DSC- P200 : $230 gift card $30 is the best price for the best ultra compact digital camera. I owned the DSC- P150 almost like DSC-P200 for more than a year, nothing can complain with it

That's a good price, but I hate the fact that Sony uses a proprietary memory stick instead ofcommon card.

Where did you hear that the shutter lag might be too great on the FX9?

The EX Z750 lens problem may have been addressed in later production runs. How to tell which one is a later production may be a dilema. I seem to recall that the gunmetal grey model may be OK.Look at the EX Z850. It is a new model and supposedly does not have the lens issue because they incorporated stronger gears in the zoom. If that is true or not, I don't know, but that has been posted in several places.

I notice that you didn't look list any Canons. I don't own one, but they have some nice models with great features. I know some of them had issues with LCDs cracking, but I don't think it applies to all models. Fuji F series cameras are pretty nice and take decent shots in lowerlighting conditions. The models I would look at in Fuji are F10 F11 F30. You seem to be willing to spend adecent amount so it doesn't like price is an issue. I think the most important think is to determine what types of photos you plan to take.
