Hi All,

I am looking for a camera that fits the following -

1. has a viewfinder - not just an LCD screen

2. 5-7 megapixil

3. mostly auto settings

4. minimum 3x optical zoom

5. uses an SD card - if possible

6. less than $300

7. isn't a mini, but doesn't weigh 5 lbs.

I know I'm asking alot - any ideas?

Thanks...

Well, I'm just a newbie to Digital Photography as well, but I've been quite happy with the Canon Powershot A540. The pictures look clean and sharp (IMHO), it's compact, fits in your coat pocket easily, comes with 21 shooting modes and a full range of manual controls.

I've also heard good things about the digital elph series.

the A610 is $200 street right now -- maybe even cheaper than the A540. and it's a very very very very good camera, based on what i've seen online...

if you want to go SD -- smaller, more stylin', uses 150-shot lithium battery, still with optical VF and lots of manual options, slightly more expensive -- the SD450 might be a good way to go... $250 street right now

(fyi, "street" = shopping.com )

I looked at the Canon site - it seems that these aredifferences,

540 (newer) 6 mgpxls, 4x zoom, 800 iso, 2 1/2 screen

610: 5 mgpxls, 4x zoom, 500 iso, 2 screen

I can live with the smaller screen, but sometimes I have hand-shake. how important is the 800 iso?

thanks for the help - there are just sooo many choices!
