I presently have an SLR Minolta Model XTsi. It is a great camera and takes wonderful pictures. I do not use the camera manually, but always on the automatic program.

I have an extra zoom attachment 100-300 mm.

I find the camera too large and bulky. Also, I do not use the large zoom very often.

I would like a camera that has the same quality pitures, but smaller and digital.

I am trying to decide between Canon Powershopt S3IS or Canon EOS Rebel XT.

Mostly the pictures I take are of my grandchildren and family.

Any suggestions on which I should purchase.

It exactly isn't some attachment, with SLRs you change whole optics when changing lens.

What I searched with Google that model is apparently one with autofocus meaning lenses you have would be compatible with KonicaMinolta dSLRs so those could be natural starting point.

So it's most using wide angle. Also for inside shots dSLR would be much better than compacts.

But sure you have other lenses for your current camera?

PS. At least if you're seriously thinking Rebel XT try it in your hand before deciding, IMO it's already too small for getting good grip.
