I've been reading and reading and reading but I still can't make up my mind. My Canon A70 is finally showing its age. I use my camera for work(and pleasure) so its effective life is closer to 10 years than 3 years.

I'm trying to decide between the TZ1 and A700. I was leaning towards the Fuji s5200 but its size is a bit much for me. So I started looking at the TZ1 because of its 10x zoom. Anyway, is there much difference between the 6x zoom and the 10x zoom?

I was at CompUsa playing with the TZ1 but they did not have the A700. Just the ever present A530 and the older A620. I know the A620 is popular but I am a victim of screen size. So I am hoping the A700 is comparable. Is the A700 the child of the 610/620 or the 540/530 lines? Or neither?

Any opinions between the TZ1 and A700? Thank you.

Keep in mind that there is a fairly wide price spread in these three cameras. Here are the average internet prices on them: theCanon A-700-$409, the Panasonic TZ-1-$264, the Fuji S-5200-$219. The TZ-1 is a good deal smaller in physical size than the S-5200 as the attached photo shows.

IMHO there is a good deal of difference in 6X amd 10X optical zoom. Keep in mind that the TZ-1 also has IS and a much better ISO 800 image than the A-700. I have already posted TZ-1 and S-5200 sample photos, and will be happy to post more if that would be helpful to you.

I personally own the TZ-1 and the S-5200, I don't own the A-700. I would personally choose the TZ-1 based on my own experience

MT-Thanks for the response. The A700 is around 300-310 online. It is around the same price as the TZ1. Actually Amazon raised the TZ1 about 30 bucks today. I know the s5200 is the cheapest but the more I thought about the size it really didn't matter as much. I saw your images in a different thread. Thanks.

DJL-

Wow! I went to price grabber this morning (07/20) to get the current prices and could not find the Canon A-700 at $300-$310. Where did you find that price? Here is a no flash ISO 800 handheld photo taken with the TZ-1.

flipped-

Thanks a lot. I guess I cannot depend on www.pricegrabber.com anymore for instant updating. Thanks for the "heads-up!" I will now include Fruggle in my price searches.

It shows up in pricegrabber, too. You just need to take the hyphen out. Or were you thinking of the SD700 IS instead of the A700? That one is about 400 dollars.

Clashman-

By doing a little reverse engineering myself that is exactly what I did. I looked at the SD-700. Ooops!
