Hi, Fernando! Those are some pretty nice shots you've posted. Are you from Portugal? Were these pictures of shorebirds that were on the Portuguese coast? It helps when you fill in your location in your account preferences.
I don't know many birds of Europe, but the last picture looks very much like the North American Wilson's Plover, except that the bill is not as long as it should be. If you need id for birds in your area of the world, the best place I've found to get this information is at Birdforum.net. |

Thanks for the comment Geoffs,
I had the guys identified, they're killdeers, alltought there's two kinds of them on these pics. They were shot in Ria Formosa, Algarve, Portugal. Rgds Fernando |

Cool shots! Killdeers sound cool.. they always fly around the horses and even try and sit on them... succeeding about 1% of the time! Lol

http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/id/framlst/i2730id.html http://www.birdwatching.com/stories/killdeer.html Alltough they're not exactly alike they're close, probably the one's on those sites are probably a diferent kind of killdeer, here in Portugal we've a few diferent kinds of them. If, they really are killdeers of course. This is what I've been told and on those sites they look similar but I may well be wrong, don't take my word for it. It's hard to identify species twice, one in Portuguese other in English ![]() Cheers |

Fernando, the links you posted point at the North American killdeer which is not the birds you have posted. However, the pictures you posted seem to be some sort of ploversso they are in the same class of birds as the killdeer.
The closest match I could find in the birdforum.net archives for the last bird pictured was this one, a Lesser Ringed Plover. The other birds seem to be plovers and if they were North American birds I might say they looked a lot like Piping Plovers in winter plumage, but all bets are off since these are from Portugal. |
