Default Acorn woodpeckers

Took a road trip down to Hillsboro, OR a couple of days ago to see the acorn woodpeckers there. I'd never seen one in person, only other peoples' photos, and I wanted to get some for myself. I was not disappointed! These are extremely photogenic, striking-looking birds, and not terribly shy. I was able to get a number of shots from distances close enough that I actually had to back off the zoom a bit! I spent a couple of hours with them, and got nearly 200 photos!

Wow...!!! What a bird! I have never seen this bird before. I love that red color on its head! Thank you so much for sharing these pictures!

My pleasure, DSP! I'd never seen one either until this one. They're not found in my area, so I had to drive 125 miles or so to find these. Well worth the trip, though!

You really wanted to see that woodpecker and you did. That was a lot of miles but you got what you went for.
Great research and photo's.

Thanks, Mike! I've driven farther for worse photos, believe me! LOL! This trip was well worth it though! Plus I got to meet up with my son who lives in Portland, and we had dinner and a couple of beers together before I headed home...
