This is a phainopepla, a bird native to the region around the US-Mexico border, that almost never gets north of southern California and Arizona. It's been hanging out in northwestern Washington for a couple of days... this is only the second recorded instance of this bird in Washington, the last being a visual-only (i.e. no photos) record from 1994.

LOL! Thanks, Phil! There seem to be more of these rare vagrants showing up here in the Pacific NW the last couple of years... not sure why. Several theories. But I'm enjoying getting to see and photograph birds that never normally appear here!
