I was trying all day to take pictures of those.

But since in some spots I cant get my body down close enough to them I have to kinda "guess" that they are in frame and focus when I macro them.

Good job!!

Hi Dennis
I managed to get the lens about 1.5ft from it. The only way I could get this close was to make sure I had grass between me and them and then very slowly extend my arms and the camera out as far as I dared! It was quite fun and I think the results paid off.

I would really have liked to have taken a photo of one in flight as they tend to hover a lot. Does anyone have any tips on how I would get the thing in focus?

thanks
Martin.

Hi Martin.

It's very difficult to get it in the air, it's a fast bug. The only thing I can come up with is to wait for it to take off. Be ready on the trigger and shoot the da... Well that's one way.

cheers
Martin.

Martin,
Have you tried burst mode? On my Mnolta that gives about one shot per second. Inthat case you might get frame that has it taking off in flight.

Aloha,
Selvin

Martin should be able to shoot more frames per second!

I wouldn't bother posting links unless you have something useful to add or say?

Martin.
