Nice shots! Those black and white birds are really tough to get a good exposure on I think you did a good job on these. I have probably taken 100 pictures of stilts and deleted them all.
You must have been in super sneak mode to get so close to them, as you are aware they are quite wary and like to make lots of noise. I see them all the time at a pond and they fly over my head and fly straight at me and then veer off at about 10 feet. Interesting birds. To me I like the second shot best with the reflection and the bird is in feeding mode. |

Thanks Zoomn.
There is this marsh land (part of San Francisco wet lands along the bay) near my house.I just parked my car on a road which is alongside part of the marsh and shot. They were too busy having their dinner. |

What a cutie pie bird, love it. I'm not sure about the cropping decision, to allow for all of the empty top space and deny us the wonderful reflection, but, what the heck, excellent work.

These are very photogenic birds and bobbyz caught good moments too.
I agree with Norm's comment about keeping the bird's reflections in the picture (if you had them in the original images to begin with). I think that reflections add so much atmosphere to a photograph and it makes the photo so much more interesting for me when there are reflections. The second picture is a gem because of it. |

Bobby is doing an absolutely fantastic job of photographing these shore birds. I look at his photos and am immediately reminded of my own pain and pleasure. Great thought, geoff, that bobby may not have had the reflection to post. The second photograph, cropped more and expanded for post to me would be excellent. I just personally see too much "lake" and the lake keeps me further away from the bird. I want the bird, not the lake.
Last phrase, excellent photo! |

Thanks geoffs and normcar for your comments.
Here is the 3rd shot with reflection. The first one had no reflection. ![]() |

Yes, bobbyz! I think that that picture has much more impact for the viewer.
