Eurasian wigeon

Found this lovely Eurasian wigeon drake mingling with a bunch of American wigeons and gadwalls at a nearby pond yesterday afternoon... these little fellas are uncommon vagrants; one or two seem to show up every winter, but they're never found here in large numbers at all. The ones we see here in the Northwest are birds from Siberia that took a wrong turn on their way south, and wound up on our coast instead of in SE Asia...

G'day Rocky

I've not heard of any of those birds - not surprising with me being Downunder ~
However I do like #1 for the bird plus the colours bouncing off the water's surface
Q- any chance of a tighter crop to show more??

G'day Rocky

Your original is the sort of image that each of us here could "play" with and get similar, but different results. So- whatever one does, it will still remain a beaut image :)

Thanks, Phil! The Eurasian wigeon actually normally winters much closer to you than to me... they breed in the far north of Russia and Siberia, and migrate south to China, Japan and South Asia in winter. The odd vagrants we see here are generally birds that have gotten lost and found their way down our coast instead of east Asia...
