Lovely shot Darrell, from what I see you were very close to it
![]() Camera, lens ?? On 2nd thought you were really close when I look at the DOF on it. If you have the chance one day to do this again, it might be impossible given the lighting condition, but F/11 and at least 1/800 sec would do marvels. Nonetheless, thats a superb shot :-) |

I would have loved to use a smaller apturature, but Ireally wanted to stop the action. It was shot at a 1/1000, f2.4. The bird house is in the shade of the overhang of my house. It can only be lit from the sun, from the back. I was shooting through a slightly open window. The camera was only about 2 feet away from the bird house. I used a Sony 717, with a remote control. That way I was able to stand several feet away from the camera (and out of the view of the birds) to capture that image.
Next time, I will try a flash. That should give me better results. Here is another image. At 1/800, f4.5, 400 iso. Neat Image used to remove some grain. At 1/800th I was still not able to stop all the action. Darrell ![]() |

i'm guessing you had the focused locked during these? the action in them are ABSOLUTELY amazing....the exposure is spot on...the only thing, is the focus seems to be an inch or two too far.....so the focus isn't directly on the heads....but...the shot is great without it! gj!

Yes, focus is locked. I locked it on the hole and was hoping my DOF would have been great enough to keep her sharp.
Another of batch of eggs are in that house. I'll have more opportunities. :-) Darrell |

i think...if you get the shot framed the same as the first one, and timed the same, with the focus locked maybe an inch closer....it would be PERFECT!
of course...that timing doesn't look too easy ![]() Vito |

Darrel,
Neat shots. I would say you caught that first one with perfect timing. The second one looks like a crash about to happen. Hard to imagine in just the space that bird has left he is going to put the flaps down and come to a smooth landing. |
