![]() ![]() I think it's worth a look at a larger image here : http://www.bytephoto.com/photopost/s...=1&ppuser=1867 I went back to my friend's place in the country, all I could see was the same winter birds as I've posted here. But I decided to give another go at woodpecker, and I think the end result is neat. Let me know what do you think ; composition wise, technical wise ![]() Comments are welcomed |

I don't have my birdbook here, so I can't check... but are you sure this is a Hairy? That doesn't look big enough... but up where I am, they are uncommon. Its not like I have much experience with them.
It's a classic composition. I'm neither here nor there about it. Part of me wants to cut off some on the bottom, but ... maybe not. Great exposure, the black still shows some detail. Eric |

Hi Eric, I decided to make it a vertical shot, since everything is vertical in it. What's interesting is the angle of the bird and the angle of the blured tree behind
![]() Yes I'm positive its a hairy, there was Downy Woodpecker with her too, and they are definitly not the same size, the Downy is about 2/3 the size of a Hairy. Cheers ! |

Gotcha, that is the best way to tell the size.
Then I envy you, I haven't seen a Hairy in several years. Yes, that that is an appealing background. It's something I'm trying to do better myself. I often shoot over water, so I'm going a little nuts trying. but it can make a big difference. Eric |
