Sometimes the exposure is opinion. Your last image, even though the ant is better exposed, appears under exposed overall. The edit by Selvin, if you go by the sharp shadow under the ant, suggests that the sun was really bright so in my opinion his edit looks just about right. When it comes down to it though, its what looks best to you.

Differences in monitors and monitor settings can have an impact on how an image looks also. For instance I pulled up your original image, turned my monitor contrast and brightness up, and the image looked something like Selvin's edit, actually slighty better.
