Actually, I believe it's a house sparrow and a brewer's blackbird! :-)

Nope what we have here is our Commom Grackle - very common. TWcoffey is right. Our neighborhood is loaded with Starlings too. I was sure it wasn't a Starling but forgot what it really was - it is black :-) Brewer's blackbirds are a bit plumper. Read all about it, http://www.pestcontrol-products.com/grackle.htm. It does have irridescent plumage. Nice looking pest bird.

SoOregon, do you live in southern Oregon? If so,it is very doubtful that this bird is a Common Grackle as grackle records from Oregon are very rare (a few reports each year filter in on the Audubon Rare Bird sightings list - here's one from June 4th). West of the Rocky Mountains this would be a Brewer's Blackbird (distinguished from the Rusty Blackbird by the purple irridescent gloss on the head feathers).

Yes I do live in Southern Oregon. We've got a Brewer's Blackbird. Now I'll change my description again on the gallery. My Oregon bird book only has the Brewer's.:?
BTW, I can't figure this out, how do you post a photo directly to the board? |

BTW, when I originally moved out to Oregon 20 years ago from the east coast, I also just assumed these were grackles. I was wrong. :-) |
