I may be a little crazy, I took my new camera (Digital Rebel) in my kayak for some pictures.

You are a little crazy... but I'm really crazy. I brought my 10D and 100-400L with me to kayak on the ocean. Got some great Osprey pictures.
Nice picture. Looks like you got really close to him. Eric |

I guess I luv my camera too much to risk it that far. Bad enough getting scratches and suck on things. Not to submerge it...

Thanks for the comments. My kayak is a *recreational* model so it's pretty stable.
This is on the Silver river in Ocala. FL which flows from Silver Springs. I think the birds there are so used to people that they let you come closer tham normal. I paddled right up next to him. I had the camera set for action so I could try to get him flying away but he never would. |

Nice cormarant shot! That creek looks so relaxing. As a kid I got so excited when I saw a show with the fishermen using these guys to catch fish for them.
Do you ever use a kite as a sail on your kayak? I had one of those pillow looking ones stashed on mine. If you just paddled all day against the wind & are heading home---- just pull out the kite & attach it to the kayak--- nice free ride :!: :!: |

I've never tried that. The places I enjoy most are rivers and streams so it's kind of hard to get a kite up and going. It sounds interesting enough to try sometime.

I'm with you--- big water isn't as much fun. My favorite memory is of pulling the kayak through a mangrove tunnel in the everglades. What a great break from the mid day sun!!
