Used burst mode and got lucky. This was the only sharp shot out of 5 that I took.

Are you sure that is a sandpiper? With a beak like that, it looks a bit like a dowitcher (sp?). But I'm certainly no expert.

Nice shot, I love the pattern the wings make in thos situations.

Looks to me like a Short-billed Dowitcher (Limnodromus griseus probably).This bird is indeed a "sandpiper" if one defines that as any birdbelonging to the family Scolopacidae.

Great picture! I especially love the littlefinger of water shooting up behind it frozen in time. Marvelous color of the breast plumage too.
